"Turandot"
3d modelling, animating and composing
During the last year we worked on creating 3D characters and composing for scene background film. The premier of opera "Turandot" was on the 19th of January in Massimo Theater in Palermo, Italy.
The story in the film shows the futuristic future where Emperoess Turandot establishes matriarchate and captures men in her holy temple.

Our project started of with making 5 cut-off heads: handsome blond, Jesus, afro, arab and arian. They represent executed lovers of empress Turandot. The main trick at this stage was to capture exact portrait likeness and to express the background story behind each character.

Next came the "evil Baby". It also was our first experience in animation. Most of the time was spent on capturing its likeness. Empress Turandot had 7 forms as a monster - Baby was one of them.

One of the most provocative - Androgen, another form of Turandot.

One of the hardest characters we faced with - Lynx.
It was hard both in technical and artistic way. It was a good chance to test out how Ornatrix acts on animated characters, how to create gradient fur, a great surprise was to create colored sports on her fur and different color transitions.

Meduza - here we only worked on texturing.

Woman-tree - a symbol of woman's independency and emancipation. The most hardest character along the project. The difficulty we faced was in creating so many animated copies with hair that would act on screen at once. The issue was in hair: it made the scene unstable, slow, almost impossible to work with. All the common known solutions didn't work, like alembic, ornatrix alembics, point cashes - they all would give a mistake in the end. But luckily, the solution was found. Woman-tree is our favorite: she overcomes technical restrictions, artistic and symbolic.

In conclusion, it was a starting point that helped us to open new directions in our services and not to stop on what is already achieved. Here's a short video of what came out in the end.
